ITEAD OS And SDK Introduction

Originally we planned to release the official version of ITEAD OS and SDK in November. However, due to some technical reasons, it must be put off. As we rescheduled, we will release ITEAD OS with GPIO, UART, IIC and SPI bus drivers and SDK with operation API’s for these buses as well as for some fixed modules such as SIM900 GSM / GPRS module, NFC module and 128×64 OLED module in the middle of this month.

Many users want to know more about the ITEAD OS and SDK, thus I will give a brief description on the layer and structure here:

We want to provide users with a set of upper-layer SDK, so that users can achieve a variety of functions only by calling the various API’s, which are not just to control all kinds of buses with the API, and they can even operate some devices directly with the API.

As the API’s in SDK rely on the system drivers, while there are diversities between some drivers because of different kernel versions, we cannot guarantee that the SDK can work in all linux systems, and that’s why we need to provide an ITEAD OS system with customized fixed kernel and modified driver. In the customized Linux , we modified and added some bus drivers and configured functions of all A10 pins according to Iteaduino Plus to ensure its compatibility with upper-layer SDK.

Thus ITEAD OS and ITEAD OS SDK can be separate. Unless it is necessary to update system drivers or to upgrade the kernel, we will try to keep version of ITEAD OS stable, so we can not to guarantee it's the latest version of the kernel. Yet we will continue to upgrade version of the SDK to offer more modules or bus support API’s, so that users only need to download, install and upgrade the latest SDK instead of reinstalling the entire operating system.

We will post another blog to demonstrate rapid development using ITEAD OS SDK, complex display driver functions can be achieved only with a few codes. We will continue to offer more API’s, if you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
