Low Cost Remote Temperature Monitor with Alarm

You need to monitor the temperature in one place like warehouse, greenhouse, etc. But you can't stay there all the time. You want a remote temperature monitor installed at home or your office, so that it can alert you in time. With just a few affordable smart gadgets, you can easily build a WIFI wireless temperature monitoring system that will solve your problem perfectly.

This system mainly consists of two WIFI enabled smart switches, a temperature sensor, and an alarm. The temperature sensor and the alarm will be respectively connected with a smart switch. After that, the former will be installed in your target place (warehouse, greenhouse, etc), and the latter will be installed at home or your office. Two smart switches require association via an app on your Android phone. When the temperature in your target place is higher or lower than the value that you set up, the data will be shared from one smart switch to the other one, and then the alarm will go off. Of course, you can also check the alarm on or off on your phone anytime and anywhere. It sounds so easy, doesn't it? Better yet, this is a set of low-cost DIY remote temperature monitors with alarm.

Just follow the six steps described below.

Sonoff TH ($7.50)
Sonoff – WIFI Wireless Smart Switch For MQTT COAP Smart Home ($4.85)
Sonoff Sensor-AM2301 ($4.30)
An alarm
Two power plugs

Step 1: Plug Sonoff Temperature Sensor into the side hole of Sonoff TH, and then in your target place, power up this smart temperature monitor – Sonoff TH.

Note: Don't plug or unplug the sensor in a power-on state. And the power input L cable must connect with the “L In” side of Sonoff TH. Likewise, the power input N cable must connect with the “N” side.

Step 2. Install E-WeLink app on your Android phone.

Before doing that, please make sure you have opened the WIFI on your Android Phone.

Download this app from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coolkit

Or directly scan the QR Code below.

After installation, you need to register a new account by entering your phone number, password, and an SMS verification code.

Step 3.Sign in with your account to add Sonoff TH for remote monitoring.

Now, sign in your E-WeLink account on your Android phone. Then, click the “Add Device” button in the bottom middle of the interface to add a device.

Go to Sonoff TH and hold down its “Set” button until the green LED indicator blinks rapidly.

Go back to your phone, click the “Next” button. Then, follow the wizard to enter your WIFI name, password, and the remaining things.

Step 4. Connect Sonoff WIFI Wireless Smart Switch with the alarm, and then at your home or office, power up this smart switch.

The power input L N cables must connect with the “L N INPUT” side of this smart switch. The alarm L N cables must connect with "OUTPUT" side of the switch.

Input  Output

Step 5. Add Sonoff WIFI Wireless Smart Switch in your E-WeLink account by using the same method as Step 3.

Now, you can see there are two devices added in your account.

Step 6. Set a temperature boundary condition for remote temperature monitor

Click the drop-down button on the top right corner of the app interface, and then go to the "Scene">"Smart Scene" option.

Respectively click the two “+” buttons (as seen above) to add temperature conditions and turn on this WIFI wireless temperature monitor with alarm.

It's done. Now, you have successfully built a smart wireless temperature monitoring system. When the Sonoff sensor detects that the surroundings temperature is higher or lower than the value you set up, the alarm will go off, no matter where you install it.

Even if you are outside, you can also monitor the temperature anytime on your phone by checking the status of the alarm – turned on or turned off.
