Test Your Power Adaptor By Dummy Load

When we finished the first version firmware of our C8051F Electronic Dummy Load, we decided to do a test – both for the dummy load and the adaptor we sold in iStore.

So, we select the “USB power adaptor -5Vdc 500mA” as a measuring object. As we see the tag that it shows this USB power adaptor should can out put max 500mA at DC 5V voltage.

To connect the power adaptor with the dummy load, we need some connecting cables, we use the “USB to 5.5mm Barrel Jack Adapter” to change USB interface to a power jack interface, and connect with a “DC Barrel Power Jack/Connector” which solder with two test wire.

Then connect the Positive voltage output with the “In(+)” terminal on the dummy load, and the negative/GND to “Out(-)” side. Plug the USB power adapter into the power outlet and power on.

Now turn on the dummy load, we can see as not any setting , it shows the voltage now output from the adapter and between the dummy load is 5.181V. and now just 4mA current through this load.

Now the dummy load just support CC (Constant Current) mode now. we set the target constant current 59mA(about 60mA), for a while the load stabilized, and see the sample I/V, we find that now the current trough the dummy is 62mA, but the voltage is drop to 4.731V !! It means that this USB power adaptor can not supply 62mA at 5V but just can at 4.7V! So, all nameplate data is not correct and it shows this adaptor is a counterfeit.

To test the actual performance of this USB power adaptor, we change the constant current to 500mA the max power parameter it said. The result is startling! When the load work at 491mA , the voltage that the adaptor can offer just 1.27V !! This actual performance gaps between the data on the label with very large standard. The fact tell us that what shows on the namespace is unauthentic except you testing it yourself.

We apologize that put this poor adaptor in store and sold to you, who have place the order with this USB adaptor can get the refund if you want. Just send the mail to info@iteadstudio.com with your order number, we will deal with it asap.

Now we are looking for a new power adaptor supplier , we will put more power source into iStore after we carefully test them.
