Wee (ESP8266) Start Guide: AT Commands Test

Adopted a standard XBee interface, Wee WiFi module pinouts ESP8266 Soc to provide a full IOs using for hacking. This tutorial is a start guide for testing AT commands on Wee WiFi module.

You can click it to download the software, please note that this software can be opened unless it detects a serial port.

Get started to know this software

Hardware Connection

As Wee uses the standard XBee interface, you can plug the Wee to Foca Pro directly. Switch to 3.3V in Foca Pro and switch to work mode in Wee. Then connect Foca to your computer.

AT commands we will test in this tutorial

  • AT
  • AT+RST: reset module
  • AT+CWMODE?: check the current mode
  • AT+CWLAP: search WiFi hot spot
  • AT+CWJAP: access the hot spot
  • AT+CIFSR: check module IP address
  • AT+CWQAP: exit the hot spot

Note: we have typed these commands in the software in advance, you can click the extension button to find them.

Configure sscom42.exe

After connecting Foca to your computer, you can open sscom42 software. Then choose the right COM and the baud rate 9600. Click the extension button, you also can send the commands by clicking the number. There is no change in other settings.

Send AT Commands & Check the Responds

Click the open serial port button, then press the reset button in Foca, the information shows as below.

Send command AT, if you got the respond OK, it means that the module starts successfully.

Send AT+CWMODE? command, the respond is 2. It means that the current mode of this module is SoftAP.

You can send AT+CWMODE=1 command to change the Station mode.

Send AT+CWLAP command to search WiFi hot spot around. The search results shows as below.

Send AT+CWJAP="ITEAD","12345678" command, you can access to this hot spot.

After accessing this hot spot, you can send AT+CIFSR command to check the IP address.

Now exit the hot spot, command is AT+CWQAP. You can send AT+CIFSR command again to check whether the module exits the hot spot. If the IP respond is, it means the module exits the hot spot.

Sent command AT+RST to reset the module.


The baud rate of your ESP8266 is different because of different firmware versions. If your ESP8266 baud rate is not 9600, you need to change the baud rate in sscom42 software.
